Review & Gallery: Whitesnake at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ 06.21.2016

Anyone who is a rock n’ roll fan is familiar with David Coverdale and Whitesnake. They know their hits, especially power ballads such as “Here I Go Again” and “Still Of The Night”. Earlier last week, the boys in Whitesnake brought those top hits, along with many of their other greatest hits to the Wellmont Theater in Montclair.

Whitesnake is David Coverdale (Vocals), Tommy Aldridge (Drums), Reb Beach (Guitar), Joel Hoekstra (Guitar), Michael Devin (Bass) and Michele Luppi (keyboards). With David Coverdale in his mid-sixties, Whitesnake is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. He’s in great shape and hitting high notes with no trouble whatsoever, which was clearly displayed with his vocals on such songs as “Slide It In” and “Fool for Your Loving”.

However, the highlight of the night was hearing one of my all-time favorite Whitesnake songs, “Is This Love”. This was the highlight of the night because it made me feel as if I was listening to the original Whitesnake album from 1987. The musicianship was spot on and the crowd in Montclair definitely agreed.

Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra are a magnificent duo when it comes to guitar players. It’s entertaining to watch them trade licks and lead solos throughout the set. Joel especially, as he is one of the most energetic guitar players on the scene today. This is also a photographers dream, as he gladly plays and interacts with the camera.

Not only did the crowd get to hear Whitesnake’s greatest hits, but they also got to witness some pretty amazing solos. The favored solo of the evening was the drum solo by Tommy Aldridge. Tommy started out as what most would think to be a normal drum solo, but that didn’t last for long. Mid solo, he threw his sticks into the crowd and played the rest of the solo with nothing but his bare palms. That right there folks is pure love for music and dedication. This sole solo alone is well worth the price of admission.

Whitesnake is out on the road through the remainder of summer into the fall, covering just about every corner of the globe. Check them out on the road and get your chance to relive some of the best rock music from the 80’s.
