There are far and few moments in life when you witness the emergence of the next big thing. For me, it happened recently with a last minute show confirmation at an art gallery in the middle of Montclair, N.J.. The Other Stars, a four piece group out of Worcester, Massachusetts was about to perform their first out-of-state show in front of an intense and eager crowd. Right as they strummed the initial notes of their soundcheck, fans crowded the front, leaving little to no space. The impending concert was shaping up to be an exciting event for everyone present.

The Other Stars are not outlandish, on the contrary they blend in with their contemporaries. But they let their music do the talking and the fans clearly gravitate to their strong and methodic musical style. The songs are quite impassioned in both content and delivery. Every note has a purpose and the melodic riffs and rhythmic drums catch you off guard. While watching their performance I found myself bobbing my head along and keeping beat with my foot. The heavy bass chords and fervent vocals were balanced out with smooth guitar riffs creating a catchy musical ambience.

Nearing the end of their set The Other Stars introduced their newest song, ‘Fragile’, much to the crowd’s delight. The song plays with upbeat melodies contrasted by strong drums and ends on an interesting guitar solo, tying it all together quite pleasantly. This band piqued my curiosity with their musical abilities and straightforward stage presence. They did not use any gimmicky distractions, just an honest and straightforward show.
