On Monday at the Reykjavik City Hall in Iceland, Björk was one of many signatories to a new statement of intent made by a unified coalition of otherwise disparate groups that declares the icelandic people’s will to create a new national park and save iceland’s central highlands from destruction. The statement is a milestone in nature conservation in Iceland.
The proposed Highland National Park would be owned by the Icelandic nation as a whole, and would support the ecologically efficient use of the country’s land based on the ideals of natural conservation and sustainability. It would be one of the nation’s greatest contributions to the protection of nature.
