Interview With Joseph Gomez

What got you into music?

When I was a kid I was fascinated with music and catchy melodies and I got my first microphone for Christmas. I then started composing songs and I listened to a lot of Top 40 music in English and Spanish. I realized how the best songs were the ones with the catchiest melodies and how a melody can transcend language.

When I was in my late teens I felt an overwhelming calling for music and I starting composing many songs with all these melodies that would come to my head. I then recorded my first song and I realized I have a very strong passion for making music and that I couldn’t ignore it and live my life without pursuing it.

What was it like seeing something you created on TV for the first time?

It was quite the surprise, I didn’t know MTV Latin America had added my music video yet, until my sister who lives in Medellin was shuffling through the channels and happened to see me, and then she tagged me on Facebook on a picture of the video playing on MTV. I was very surprised and excited and I felt very happy to see the result of such a big effort I had to make to make it all happen.

How do you write your music?

Most of the time, I get inspired by situations I’m experiencing at the moment or that I have experienced. I then I start thinking of melodies and lyrics to express the feelings and emotions I feel. It’s a very personal time and I have to tap deeply into my soul so that my songs can reflect those emotions.

What do you stand for?

I stand for love, family, passion, determination, equality, oneness, and truth.

Are you working on any new material?

Yes, right now I’m writing new songs and working with producers on some cool catchy tunes.

What can we expect from you in 2014?

A new music video and maybe one or two singles from my new album in the making.

Is being so international difficult, or has it helped you?

Being international has definitely helped me; it’s gratifying to know that my music can reach and impact different audiences from different cultures and backgrounds, and to see how music truly is a universal language.

Any words to the fans?

To my fans, I love you with all my heart and soul and all your kind words, love and support fill me with warmth inside. Thank you for believing in me and giving me the strength to keep perusing my passion.
